One man is in custody and police are still searching for two others after a fatal shooting in uptown Saint John that prompted an emergency alert and shelter-in-place order.
A call came in to police about shots fired in the area of Carmarthen Street and King Street East around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Officers found the body of a 20-year-old man inside a vehicle. His name has not been released, but next of kin have been notified.
Three suspects were seen leaving the area on foot headed down Carmarthen Street toward Union Street, according to police.
In an update issued around 2:45 p.m., police said one male was in custody and the alert was being lifted.
“Based on the current information police have, we believe this to be an isolated incident,” said the update.
A police spokesperson told our newsroom they are still looking to identify and locate the other two suspects.
Police first posted about the incident on social media around 10:50 a.m., warning people in the area to stay inside. An emergency alert was issued around 12:40 p.m.
Schools in the area were also placed on lockdown as a precaution while police investigated the incident.
