Thousands of essential workers in New Brunswick are set to receive a long-awaited wage boost.
The provincial government and CUPE Local 1252 have finalized a new collective agreement.
The union represents over 9,600 employees who work for regional health authorities and Extra-Mural/Ambulance New Brunswick.
Wages will increase by five dollars per hour over four years, retroactive to July 1, 2024.
Employees will see hourly raises of one dollar in the first year, followed by increases of $1.10, $1.30, and $1.60 over the next three years.
The agreement also includes financial incentives and premiums aimed at improving retention and recognizing workers’ contributions, according to a government release.
Those covered by the deal include patient care attendants, tradespeople, food service workers, environmental services staff, and administrative support employees.
Finance and Treasury Board Minister René Legacy acknowledged the agreement, pointing out how vital these workers are in making sure public services run smoothly.
“These committed professionals make a real difference in the lives of many residents by improving health outcomes and ensuring vital operations run smoothly,” Legacy said.
The province describes the agreement as a fair and well-earned deal that acknowledges the dedication of these employees while strengthening workforce stability.
