Residents in the Grand Bay-Westfield area are urged to check their properties, outbuildings and vehicles for any sign of a missing elderly woman.
Ruth Carol Sutton, who goes by Ruth, was last seen walking on Mallard Drive in the community just after 9 a.m. Sunday.
Police said the 79-year-old suffers from a medical condition that may cause her to become disoriented.
RCMP said they followed up on several leads but had not been able to locate her.
She is described as five-foot-two, weighing 130 pounds, with white hair and blue eyes.
Police now believe she was last seen wearing a tan-coloured Tilley hat, a light blue jacket, rubber boots to her ankles and white socks.
Grand Bay-Westfield Mayor Brittany Merrifield said Tri-County Ground Search and Rescue led the operations on Monday, alongside the RCMP.
They are being assisted by an RCMP helicopter, boats patrolling the shoreline, a police dog and Grand Bay-Westfield Volunteer Fire Rescue.
“We want to express our deepest gratitude to all first responders involved in this search. From RCMP officers and K9 units, to search and rescue crews, air and marine teams – your tireless efforts, expertise, and care do not go unnoticed,” Merrifield said in a social media post.
“To the volunteers and neighbours who continue to lend a hand, thank you for showing the true heart of our community. This kind of unity and support makes all the difference.”
Merrifield said residents are urged to stay out of the woods, where the professional teams are focused. You can help by walking roads and established trails, checking ditches along the way.
