Search teams remain active in Grand Bay-Westfield as efforts continue to locate 79-year-old Carol Sutton.
She was last seen walking on Mallard Drive around 9 a.m. Sunday morning. Police say Sutton has a medical condition that may cause disorientation, raising concerns about her ability to navigate safely.
The RCMP, Miramichi Search and Rescue, and Grand Bay-Westfield Fire and Rescue Department are leading the search, using specialized resources to aid in the effort.
RCMP spokesperson Corporal Jullie Rogers-Marsh says search crews have asked residents to check their properties carefully for signs of Sutton.
“We’re continuing to ask residents of the area to check their properties, their outbuildings, whether it’s a shed or a garage, and any vehicles for any signs of Mrs. Sutton,” Rogers-Marsh said.
Authorities say Sutton was last seen wearing a tan-colored Tilley-style hat, a light blue jacket, ankle-length rubber boots, and white socks.
Grand Bay-Westfield Mayor Brittany Merrifield said the community has been a big help in assisting search efforts and sharing useful information with the RCMP.
“This community has been nothing short of incredible, and the RCMP has received a steady stream of helpful information over the past three days,” Merrifield said in a social media post Tuesday afternoon.
Officials continue to follow up on leads, and search teams say even one small clue could help refocus efforts.
Rogers-Marsh says multiple search teams from across the province have joined the effort.
“We’ve had multiple search teams from across the province assisting, along with police dogs, drones, and a helicopter that was deployed for an extended time,” she said.
If you’re helping with the search, officials ask that you not approach or disturb anything you find and report it immediately to the Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP at 506-757-1020.
