A former CEO at Port Saint John voices how important community involvement is for continued growth.
Senator Jim Quinn shared his thoughts on the port’s growth and future direction during the Saint John Region Chamber of Commerce’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday.
He highlighted the progress made at the port but feels there is still more to be done.
“I believe I keep saying, and maybe I’m wrong, but we’ve scratched the surface here,” he said.
“That’s what we’ve done, and we’re going to grow, and we need to get the community excited about that.”
His remarks come as major investments continue to reshape the port, including the recent Port Days event, where officials discussed its transformation into a key trade hub.
One of the latest projects, Americold’s new cold storage facility, is expected to strengthen the province’s refrigerated supply chain and create new job opportunities.
Quinn emphasized how these developments tie into the broader economic impact for Saint John.
“This port is going to help create jobs that are going to keep our kids in this community,” he said.
Reflecting on his time as CEO of Port Saint John, Quinn spoke about the importance of fostering new talent and leadership at the port.
“I applaud Craig and his team for bringing in young people because that’s what’s keeping the imagination going, the vigor, the innovation, and the determination,” he said.
“Those are success factors for any organization, and they’re doing a wonderful job at that.”
He adds that by rallying around the Port, the region can continue to grow, create new job opportunities, and secure a stronger future for generations to come.
