Two new hockey teams in Charlotte County now have names and logos.
The teams are the Eastern Charlotte Kingfishers and St. Croix Seawolves.
Both are part of the United States Premier Hockey League’s National Collegiate Development Conference.
They were among five expansion teams announced in mid-May. The other teams will be in Woodstock, N.B., Quebec City and Presque Isle, Maine.
Saint Andrews resident Ted Colley will own both of the new teams in St. Stephen and Eastern Charlotte.
“The community deserves it and has been incredibly supportive throughout the process,” Colley said in a news release at the time of the announcement.
The expansion marks the return of high-level junior hockey to the Charlotte County region after a seven-year absence.
If the Kingfishers name sounds familiar to you, it is because that was the name of a local minor hockey team more than 30 years ago.
Players will take to the ice for their first games in September.
