The towns of Quispamsis and Rothesay are teaming up to launch a free transit pilot.
KV Go is a daytime bus service that will run eight hours a day, seven days a week.
Mike Biggar, a councillor in Quispamsis, said they are excited to get this up and running.
“We’ve been working on this as a joint demonstration project, seeking to meet needs that we have keenly felt in both towns for some time,” Biggar told our newsroom.
The “demonstration project” aims to create a new transportation offering solely within the Kennebecasis Valley to improve the lives of residents, said the town.
Several stops in both communities
The goal is to provide the framework for a long-term transit option meant to make it easier to run errands, as well as visit municipal parks, facilities and other important services.
Biggar, who also chairs Quispamsis council’s transportation committee, said they have selected several stops within both communities as part of the pilot project.
“We’ve created kind of this inner loop of the more central parts of the two towns, and then do two loops of those, and then do one loop of the outer sort of nodes,” he said.
That would include places like Meenan’s Cove Beach, Renforth Wharf and the Wells Recreation Centre.
Pilot will run for several months
Biggar said they still need to acquire the bus for the service, but they hope to have it up and running mid-July.
It would run for several months into the fall, at which time staff would evaluate the data and feedback to determine the next steps, he said.
“With every anticipation that we would be looking at a permanent solution sometime in 2026,” Biggar added.
An online survey is available until July 9, which will be used to inform future decisions. Paper copies are also available at Quispamsis and Rothesay town halls.
Each community is contributing just over $60,000 toward the pilot project.
