The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick has celebrated the grand opening of Crabtree Hall at the Glenn Carpenter Centre in Saint John.
The project was built through a $4.7‑million campaign and transforms the Centre from a small seasonal camp into a year‑round resource for the community.
The new facility now offers childcare, after‑school care, and outdoor programs that let families reconnect with nature in a world that is increasingly screen‑dominated.
Shilo Boucher, YMCA president and CEO of southwestern New Brunswick, said the new facility meets a growing need for childcare and after‑school support while offering hands‑on outdoor learning.
“Our programs help families reconnect with the outdoors and support healthier lifestyles,” she explained.
Boucher noted that the fresh space now serves more than 5,000 people each year with nature‑based learning, environmental education, and recreational activities.
Crabtree Hall also features a water play area called Float City and offers hands‑on experiences such as fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and exploring nature trails.
Boucher said the success of the project to the generosity of local donors and the hard work of YMCA volunteers.
“This project shows what can happen when our community comes together,” she added.
The revamped Glenn Carpenter Centre now makes better use of its 220‑acre property by hosting a range of programs and events throughout every season.
