Drivers on Sandy Point Road will soon navigate a new single-lane roundabout at Foster Thurston Drive.
The project is one of several intersection upgrades recommended in MoveSJ, the city’s transportation strategic plan.
City staff say the roundabout will smooth traffic flow and reduce the risk of serious collisions by slowing turning movements and maintaining a steady stream of vehicles.
Key elements of the work include:
- Building the circular roadway and its approach lanes
- Adding new sidewalks for pedestrians
- Installing upgraded storm sewer lines
- Erecting energy-efficient street lighting
Motorists should plan for temporary traffic controls, lane closures and flaggers directing vehicles through the work zone. Crews will aim to keep delays to a minimum.
The public is invited to a drop-in information session on Thursday, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hazen White-St.
Francis School, 538 Sandy Point Road.
Representatives from Harbourside Engineering Group and Brunswick Engineering will be on hand to answer questions and display project drawings.
