A weekend incident in western New Brunswick has raised serious concerns for both all-terrain vehicle riders and property owners.
Mounties said a driver using an ATV trail in the Hartford area, near Woodstock, collided with a wire tied across the path.
There were no injuries reported during the incident on Saturday, but police said it had the potential to be much worse.
“Low-hanging objects like wires or ropes can be extremely dangerous, especially for ATV riders who may not see them in time to react,” RCMP Sgt. James Gallant said in a news release.
If you are placing a line or barrier on your property that crosses or borders a trail, Gallant said it must be clearly marked with reflective tape or signage to prevent incidents like this.
RCMP also offered some safety tips when operating an ATV, such as never driving under the influence, obeying all trail rules and posted signage and being alert to your surroundings, especially at night.
Helmets are mandatory for all riders in New Brunswick, regardless of how old you are.
