The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit has taken over the case of a missing man from the Sussex area.
David Alexander Mitchell was last seen at a home in Whites Mountain on Sept. 9, 2024.
Investigators have followed up on several leads in the months since but have not been able to locate him.
Mounties said they are still actively working to try and determine what led to Mitchell’s disappearance.
“This is a case that involves several unanswered questions in relation to the events leading to and following the disappearance of David Mitchell on September 9, 2024,” Cpl. Matthew Leblanc-Smith said in a news release Thursday.
“The Southeast District RCMP has worked diligently on this file over the last year, and our Major Crime Unit will continue this work to ensure all avenues are explored to solve this case.”
Months after his disappearance, police said they were treating the matter as suspicious and trying to determine if criminality was involved.
Supporters held a protest outside the Hampton RCMP detachment in November to bring attention to the case.
Mitchell is described as being about six-foot-two, weighing about 180 pounds, with hazel eyes, grey hair and a grey goatee.
