Harness racing will resume at a New Brunswick raceway following a tragic incident this spring.
A three-year-old boy died at the Connell Park Raceway in Woodstock on June 14.
He was struck by the starting gate attached to the pacing truck during the season opener.
The River Valley Sun reports the town has accepted a safety plan from the Woodstock Driving Club, which manages the raceway.
Club President Owen Davies told the paper that includes adding gates, installing a temporary fence to keep fans further away from the track, and putting up warning signs in key areas.
The plan was officially approved by council during a special noon-hour meeting on Thursday. Races will resume on Aug. 4.
Meanwhile, an investigation by the Woodstock Police Force into the boy’s death is nearing completion.
Deputy Police Chief Simon Watts told the paper that the department would be issuing a news release “soon.”
