The executive director of a seniors group says it seems like seniors are under attack at all times in New Brunswick.
Cecile Cassista with the Coalition for Seniors and Nursing Home Residents’ Rights is referring to the province’s move to privatize the Extra-Mural Program.
She also questions the timing of the announcement – just before the Labour Day weekend.
“They (provincial government) didn’t consult with the regular people… the ordinary people out there. They said they talked with the medical profession and what not but they are not the spokespersons for all of New Brunswick,” she says.
Cassista believes creating a new board of directors to oversee the program is a move to dismantle the province’s two regional health authorities.
The Gallant government insists the Extra-Mural Program is not being privatized noting how its new manager Medavie Health Services is a not-for-profit organization.
