There were lineups outside many Cannabis NB stores on Wednesday for the first day of legal recreational marijuana in Canada.
Suzanne Young was first in line at the Rothesay store and told our newsroom she is happy cannabis is finally legal.
“If I want to do some, maybe a toke, and if I want to also have some oil, I can do that now legally,” Young said. “But I’ll probably be one of the only ones in my group and my family doing it.
The 68-year-old said she has tried medical cannabis oil before but has zero expertise when it comes to other forms of the drug.
About 30 minutes to go now until the Cannabis NB retail stores open to the public. Here in #Rothesay, Suzanne Young is the only person in line so far. But several people are waiting in their cars for the store to open. pic.twitter.com/2MwQo9bb9P

But Young is not worried because she has heard New Brunswick has the best-trained cannabis retail staff in the country.
“It’s like going into a jewellery store, I was told. I won’t be buying pearls today, though,” Young said with a laugh. “It’s going to be fun going in there. I’m just going to go in there and get some help.”
Young said she believes it will be hard to change the minds of those who are anti-cannabis, but she thinks a lot of adults will now want to try it.
