The group Liveable Saint John is still expressing concerns over the American Iron and Metal recycling facility known as AIM on Saint John’s west side.
The company was ordered to cease all operations by Environment Minister Jeff Carr on November 22nd, after a series of recent explosions and impact noises rattled nerves and windows.
However, a 90-day trial period has now begun for the company.
Liveable Saint John’s Gary MacDonald says they want a 90-day study of air, noise and vibrations at the recycling plant, especially regarding any heavy metal airborne contaminants.
” The makeup of the particulates, what sort of danger or risk they may pose to an individuals health, you have noise concerns and people who have complained about the disruption of sleep,” says MacDonald.
MacDonald says they will be checking with the Department of Environment to find out what the latest operating parameters will be.
