The auditor general’s report on the nursing program at two universities not supplying enough nurses for the $100-million investment made is getting a welcome reaction from government.
Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Trevor Holder said he can’t help but feel the Higgs government has been vindicated.
“We need to monitor our results and that’s exactly why, with respect to the nursing program, we made the changes that we made in last year’s budget and, you know, the opposition was very critical of us at the time,” stated Holder.
Holder said Auditor General Kim MacPherson made a recommendation in her 2019 report which had already taken place.
“Actually, in this year’s budget, the program that she is referring to, we ended. We then proceeded to start discussions with the Université de Moncton and UNB Saint John toward putting an LPN-to-RN bridging program in place,” he said.
