There is a new officer in charge of the Saint John Police Force.
Stephan Drolet officially assumed the role of police chief Monday.
The role had been held by interim chief Bruce Connell, who came out of retirement in April of 2018 to replace outgoing chief John Bates.
Drolet had been with the RCMP for the past 27 years, spending most of his career in British Columbia. Most recently, he was the deputy criminal operations officer in that province.
In a previous interview, Edward Keyes, chair of the Saint John Board of Police Commissioners, said Drolet’s leadership abilities stood out most during the hiring process.
“He’s got extensive leadership at the municipal level and the provincial level and the national level,” said Keyes.
Drolet was selected from more than 70 applicants for the force’s top job.
