Although it may be Victoria Day, New Brunswick’s top doctor is discouraging unnecessary travel.
In the past few months, holidays have resulted in a spike in COVID-19 cases across New Brunswick.
Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health, encouraged New Brunswickers not to let one day ruin 14 months of hard work.
“Continue to wear a mask in public places, maintain two metres of physical distance from others, wash your hands regularly and thoroughly. If you feel unwell, please stay home,” said Russell.
A total of 16 new cases were reported in New Brunswick on Saturday and Sunday, with most of them in the Fredericton health region, Zone 3.
As of Sunday, there were 128 known active cases of COVID-19 across the province, with 69 of those cases in the Fredericton health region.
Public Health also announced a dozen potential public exposures to COVID-19 in Fredericton on Sunday.
Russell said if you have mild symptoms of COVID-19 or have been at the site of a public exposure, it is time to get tested.
