The Saint John Police Force is happy with the results of this year’s Holiday in a Box campaign.
Last month, the community was asked to helpĀ fill shoeboxes with essential items targeted toward less fortunate adults.
Officers said 575 shoeboxes and 65 gift cards were divided up and donated to the following community groups:
- The Carleton Community Centre
- Crescent Valley Resource Centre
- P.U.L.S.E Inc. Saint John
- The ONE Change Inc.
- The Waterloo Village Neighbourhood Association
“This initiative tells everyone in our community who is struggling that our police and community care about you and won’t forget about you,” said Saint John Police Chief Robert Bruce.
“This program won’t change the world. We all want to change the world, but it won’t change the world, nor will it make a significant impact on the overall outcome of our vulnerable citizens. However, it does send a strong compelling message to everyone, this program will not be a success without a committed community and our police force.”
The number of shoeboxes donated was down from the 675 that were collected during last year’s campaign.
